About this resource

Teach all 16 lessons of Stage 1 HSIE Unit 8, Caring for Water and Country, from one classroom-ready slide deck.

Overview

This is a complete PowerPoint for NSW HSIE Stage 1 Unit 8. It covers all 16 lessons plus 4 consolidation activities across 409 classroom-ready slides, so you can open it, project it and teach.

The unit begins with Country: what connection to Country means in Aboriginal Cultures, the reciprocal responsibility to care for it, and how Aboriginal Peoples read the land, water and sky to know when to harvest, travel and rest. Students meet Dreaming Stories about water, explore how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples value water Country and Place, and learn how Indigenous Rangers care for waterways today. From Lesson 7 the unit turns to fresh water in Australia: the natural and human features of water environments, how water travels from dam to tap and back again, how households, farms and industries use it, and how urban and rural communities differ. It finishes with sustainable water use at home and school, a class water audit and the Water savers lesson. Every lesson runs on the same clear flow of learning intention, key language, beginning the lesson, core lesson, challenge and concluding reflection.
